About the Author

Vicki Eastman is a fourth-year teacher who rescued herself from corporate marketing in 2021. She hit the job jackpot as the web and digital media instructor at Maize Career Academy (Kansas). Eastman has a BA in Communication (Integrated Marketing Communications) from Wichita State University, a MS in Education from Fort Hays State University and was a 2023 Kansas Horizon Award nominee.

After 16 years in the industry, she couldn't escape the marketing bug's bite. Eastman, with her husband, runs a freelance marketing company on the side, specializing in web and digital marketing strategy.

Description

This course introduces students to the world of digital media, focusing on photography, video production, graphic design, and the principles of storytelling. Students will explore the creative and technical aspects of media creation, including topics like typography, color theory, metadata, file organization and career exploration. Using tools like Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva, students will bring their ideas to life through hands-on projects and real-world applications. Aligned with Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) standards, this course challenges students to think critically, work collaboratively, and develop their creativity. By the end of the course, students will complete a professional-quality portfolio showcasing their growth and skills.
